Chapter 7: Temporarily Settled Down

Translator: EndlessFantasy Translation Editor: EndlessFantasy Translation

When Kans looked at me, there was a hint of pity in his eyes that even he didn’t realize. I had always been raised by my father as a future Alpha, so I’d never received such a look before. It kind of reminded me of….a stray dog on the roadside.

“I’ll be…taking my leave now.”

I couldn’t stand it anymore. It was hard to continue being friends now that our statuses are so far apart. The first and only reaction I had was to be as far away from him as possible. But Kans quickly got up and stood in my way.

“Where are you going next? Do you have a place to settle down?”

Kans’ question immediately stumped me. I had left home in such a hurry that I didn’t have a single cent on me, not even a phone. I guessed I would be sleeping on the streets tonight.

I didn’t want to expose any more of my vulnerabilities to him so I simply said, “Yes, I have plans.”

I didn’t think that I missed a beat but Kans saw through me too easily. He scratched his cheek with his index finger and embarrassedly said, “I have a house nearby. You can stay there.”

I was a little surprised. After all, we were currently in a very remote place surrounded by woods, very far from the city center. Being in such a place was actually quite unlike Kans who was one of those people who liked to buy their coffee from a cafe.

And unsurprisingly, Kans saw through my doubts too as he covered his head and started to laugh. “The scenery here is great so I thought it would be the perfect place to spend my older years with my mate.” As he spoke, his wheat-colored cheeks turned red.

I couldn’t help but tease him. “Are you sure it’s OK for me to move in first, then?”

“Yes, it is!” He immediately responded. “Anyway…” But then Kans simply mumble his next few words in a voice so low I couldn’t hear him clearly.

To be honest, Kans’ suggestion was very tempting, Yet, I couldn’t help but keep feeling that my current status wouldn’t make it suitable for me to come into contact with him. His father was my father’s most loyal elder. And now that my father had cut off all ties with me, his father definitely wouldn’t accept me coming into contact with Kans.

But on the other hand, I really had no other solution. I couldn’t expect to live a normal life so easily with my current situation. I was in a dilemma.

In the end, I decided that I didn’t want to make things difficult for Kans, so I chose to reject his offer.

“Thank you, Kans. But-”

But before I could finish, Kans interrupted me. “Don’t be afraid. This place is very remote. No one will know. ”

I observed our surroundings. Kans was telling the truth. A busy person like Father would never come to this remote place. Just as I was hesitating, Kans grabbed my wrist and pulled me into his car.

Alright, this was indeed the best solution at the moment. I would treat this as a foothold and consider other things after I had settled down.

And so, I ended up staying in Kans’ house. Since it was remote, almost no one passed by here, so it was a very quiet place. But because it was too far away from the city, Kans would often need to travel half a day just to get here. Even so, Kans would come to see me often.

One morning, I was woken up by the sound of the doorbell. I slowly opened the door, expecting Kans.?But instead, I quickly realized that the person standing before me was the person I missed the most.

Before the door had been fully opened, the person squeezed in from the outside and hugged me with tears falling like a waterfall. “Sister, I finally get to see you!”

It was my little sister, Yili.

She hugged me tightly before looking at me carefully, checking to make I was alright. And as if that wasn’t enough, she stared at me for a long time and finally said in a choked voice, “Sister, you’ve lost weight. You must have suffered here!”

Kans was standing behind her and heard what she had said. He started to look a little unhappy and quickly pulled Yili away to grab me so that he could also take a good look. “You must be mistaken. How can Ellie lose weight with me taking care of her?”

Yili kicked him from behind and shouted at Kans, “My heart aches for my sister. What does it have to do with you? Sister, Dad has been observing me so much to make sure I don’t go looking for you. But I finally managed to catch him when his guard was down and came to look for you immediately. Why are you so stupid? Why did you decide to keep the child? And what’s wrong with Daddy? How could he…”

I hugged Yili and patted her head as if to comfort her. “It’s all in the past. I’m fine now.”

Yili peeked at me from my embrace and said with a serious expression, “Sister, why are you so being so considerate? You are really starting to look like a mother.”

I gently flicked Yili’s head. “Don’t talk nonsense. Come on in.”

Well, what Yili said was half right. I didn’t know if it was because of the quiet environment or because I was about to become a mother, but my personality had turned much gentler than before. I rarely had any irascible moments recently.

Despite entering the place and sitting on the sofa, Yili’s eyes remained fixated on me unblinkingly, even when I went to prepare some tea for them. I could tell from her body language that she had a lot of questions but didn’t know how and where to start.

I really couldn’t stand her constant gaze, so I helplessly said, “Just ask whatever you want to ask.”

Upon hearing my words, Yili impatiently asked, “Sister, are you really going to give birth to the child?”

I knew she would ask this so I nodded and said, “Yes, I can’t be a b*stard who goes against the Moon Goddess. Besides, I can’t bear to kill the little life in my stomach.”
