Chapter 120 - 120 Hacker 1

Qiao Yue could not refuse to eat with Qiao Jing. Since she could not uninvite him, Qiao Yue did the next best thing: she focused on her fish soup. But her traitorous eyes would linger on Qiao Jing’s lips if she allowed herself even a moment’s distraction.

Qiao Yue’s eyes drifted, catching sight of his twinkling eyes. She choked. After a series of coughs, she glared at Qiao Jing.

“What are you laughing at?” Qiao Yue demanded.

Qiao Jing put down his chopsticks, his smile a constant fixture. “Oh, nothing. It looked like you were having trouble concentrating on your food.”

“That’s not true!” Qiao Yue refused to give Qiao Jing the satisfaction of being right and continued eating as if it were not there.

Qiao Yue stayed in the hospital for three days. On the first day, it was quiet, with only Qiao Yu and Qiao Jing visiting her. However, on the second day, more and more people came to see Qiao Yue.

Although Qiao Jing said he would care for her, he could not always be by her side. Hence, he got someone else to stand in for him.

Whenever Qiao Jing was not around, Chu Jia and several others would watch her in his stead. As soon as Chu Jia entered the ward, she sized up her boss.

“Boss, you’re amazing! You got to the hospital without any help despite the injuries you sustained because of those kidnappers. Then there was that other time you took two people to wipe out an entire gang! I’m getting too old for this…” Chu Jia sighed, surprised to see Qiao Yue so hale and hearty.

Qiao Yue rolled her eyes. Here was her subordinate, happily poking fun at her again! Chu Jia, the iron lady who had weathered mountains of daggers and seas of flame, nearly burst into tears when she heard Zhou Lan say her boss had fainted.

“By the way, Boss, I beat up those small fries. They were so weak I thought I got the wrong people!” Chu Jia laughed.

Qiao Yue put on a smile and said, “Is that so? Perhaps we’ll need to get some practice in once I recover.”

Sensing the malice in Qiao Yue’s words despite her smiling face, Chu Jia swallowed her words.

Zhou Lan was not so reserved and burst into laughter. “I told you not to tease her. You’re just asking for trouble!”

Chu Jia grit her teeth, glaring at Zhou Lan. She had to remind herself that she was here for important business. “Boss, we found someone interesting yesterday.”

Qiao Yue tilted her head in thought.

“A hacker?” Qiao Yue asked.

“Bingo! With your speed, the only way they could have matched you would have been through a coordinated assault with someone in command.”

Chu Jia’s words reminded Qiao Yue of the events that night. She was certain she had managed to shake off their lead, but they always caught up with her not long after. This faceless hacker, this commander-in-chief, had some tricks up their sleeves.

Qiao Yue nodded.

Curious, Chu Jia asked, “Boss, don’t you love talents like these as much as your life? Are you not going to try recruiting them?”

“Why would I? We already have YQ. Do we still need anyone else?” Qiao Yue questioned.

Qiao Yue’s question confused Chu Jia. Still, YQ was the best in the world; that bit was true. Chu Jia just found it weird that Qiao Yue did not jump at the opportunity to recruit someone useful. Then again, it was not for her to countermand her superior.

Chu Jia had asked YQ to help her obtain a map for a mission in the past, but he refused no matter how she begged. She had thought it would be a piece of cake for YQ, but who could have known he would jump the gun and complete the mission himself? There was a world of difference between them.

In line with YQ’s style of handling things, Chu Jia grew determined to get this new, nameless hacker into their fold, or more precisely, under Qiao Yue.

“Boss, think about it. YQ is worked to the bone. I’m sure he would be happy to receive some help!” Chu Jia’s eyes lit up as she pushed her proposal.

“If you want to do it, then do it. Leave me out of whatever it is you’ve planned.”

Qiao Yue was well aware of YQ’s personality. She did not want YQ to think she was questioning his ability. The situation would be vastly different if Chu Jia engaged the nameless hacker herself.

“I’ll do it. Boss, may I borrow your phone?”

Without giving Qiao Yue an opportunity to reject her, Chu Jia took advantage of Qiao Yue’s limited mobility and swiped her phone lying next to her pillow.

“Big guy, control your wife. She even dares to steal my phone!” Qiao Yue turned to the large man beside Chu Jia, helpless.

The big man smiled. He was extremely large and built like an ox, which instilled fear in most people around him. Yet, when he smiled, it revealed a certain innocence about him.
